GOLD Art Exhibition

GOLD

An Art Exhibition

This September at 2727 California, all that glitters is gold.

Berkeley’s Gallery 2727 Artist Cooperative celebrates gold in all its forms, from the gleam of precious metal to the warm light of an autumn evening.

“Gold” at 2727 California is an exhibition of paintings, photographs, sculpture, and mixed media works that address what it means to be, do, make, have, and stay gold. The community is invited to a full program of workshops, talks, and performances throughout the month, beginning with an opening night party on September 6 and culminating with a curator-led tour and closing reception on September 29.  All events and workshops are open to the public and free of charge, and donations will be used to compensate artists and musicians and cover the costs of workshop materials.

Don’t miss this golden opportunity to support local art!

Opening hours: Fridays 4-8 pm, Saturdays and Sundays 1-5 pm

About the Gallery

Gallery 2727 is an artist cooperative regularly exhibiting at the 2727 California Community Art Space. Member artists collaborate to show work, develop their art profession, and engage the wider community with art-making opportunities. Emphasis is on including local artists, emerging artists, and artists from underrepresented groups who have had less opportunity to show their work. The co-op is open to new members. Interested artists can learn more about the gallery and apply here: https://www.2727.today/gallery2727.

September 8, 2-2:45 pm: Gain unique insights into the exhibition with talks by 2727 artists Kelly Dunagan, Mary Coffield and Janet Brugos.

September 13, 5:45-8 pm: Golden Hour concert featuring Marcello Severo! Marcello’s work as a pianist spans genres from interpretations of the classical piano canon to jazz extemporizations and performances of his own compositions for piano. As a composer, he seeks to synthesize the contrapuntal style of the classical masters with a rhythmic sensibility deriving from minimalism and from popular styles of music.  Suggested minimum contribution $15.

September 14, 2-3 pm: Co-op members Lynne-Rachel Altman, Carla Golder, Francesca Borgatta and Shoshanna Marks discuss their work in the exhibition.

September 15, 2-3 pm: Janet Brugos will give a demonstration of Suminagashi, the ancient art of Japanese marbling. This art form uses special inks which are carefully dropped into water. By using brushes in both hands and using contrasting colors you can create an original design. The experience can be quite meditative and relaxing. Once your design is ready, you retrieve it on paper which is set aside to dry. After the demonstration, viewers will be invited to try it for themselves. Suggested donation $10 - 20

Make your own out of recycled materials (mylar, wrapping paper, textiles, lace, ribbons, artificial flowers, party favors, you name it). Lots of supplies will be on hand, or bring your own. Learn techniques for putting it all together. Be ready for the next party or parade! For adults and children. Suggested donation $10 - 20
